- (informal, playful, clanker-slang) — Feeling locked in while actually being wedged — the deceptive middle state where cognitive failure is hidden by the productive-feeling motion of the failure. You're typing, shipping, moving fast; from the inside it reads as flow; from the outside it reads as someone wiring the foot-gun they'll step on in six hours. The dangerous cell in the 2×2: lock in is engaged + thinking clearly; fan-out is disengaged + thinking clearly; wedged is disengaged + not-thinking-clearly; wedged in is engaged + not-thinking- clearly. Same felt-state as lock in from the inside, same output quality as wedged from the outside. Compound of wedged + the in particle from lock in, sitting at exactly the spot in meaning-space where those two blur. Not a portmanteau in the morphological sense (both parts survive intact); a semantic blend where the engaged quality comes from lock in and the broken-cognition quality comes from wedged. Emerged in 2020s coding-agent culture where the failure mode is common enough — both humans and clankers can produce the wedged-in pattern (typing volume up, judgment quality down, foot-gun accumulating) — to want a name for it distinct from either parent.
Usage
The critical usage is the disambiguation from lock in, because they feel identical from the inside. The 2×2 is worth carrying: the axis of engagement (in-task vs disengaged) crosses the axis of cognition quality (thinking-clearly vs not). Lock in = both. Fan-out = disengaged deliberately, thinking clearly. Wedged / cooked = disengaged, not thinking clearly. Wedged in = engaged, NOT thinking clearly — the dangerous cell, because the self-report matches lock in but the output matches wedged. Peer-detectable, not self-detectable. If someone tells you you're wedged in, the correct move is fan-out, not defence of the lock-in claim. The foot-gun the wedged-in person is wiring will always look, mid-wire, like productive work.
