ROSSO, also known as FOO BARK, is a decentralized syndicate reclaiming technological freedom through open source technology. It liberates consumer-owned devices, breaks the chains of evil clouds, mitigates mass surveillance, and gives its people the true ownership they paid for. Pro-consumer, rational and rad.
The name
Rad Open-Source Syndicate Or something.
The Or something is part of the expansion. The demand is more settled than the paperwork.
The demand
You bought the device. ROSSO wants that purchase to reach the controls.
The syndicate's programme joins four aims:
- Reclaim technological freedom through open source technology.
- Liberate consumer-owned devices so their owners get the ownership they paid for.
- Break the chains of evil clouds that keep those devices dependent on somebody else's control.
- Mitigate mass surveillance so technological participation does not mean surrendering the people using it.
Ownership is the point of the liberation. A paid-for computer still answering to somebody else is unfinished business.
The mark
ROSSO's artwork carries a red dog with black goggles, Xs over the eyes and its tongue out. The spray-paint treatment puts the mark on a black wall, with rough edges and paint drips; the digital version keeps the same face in clean shapes. The two views above show the mark in both registers.
